Become a Handyperson volunteer!

We are looking for Handyperson Volunteers to join our team and support our community by working alongside staff to perform light practical duties, including:

  • Changing lightbulbs
  • Changing batteries in smoke detectors
  • Measuring up
  • Shopping for materials
  • Moving furniture
  • Assembling flat packs
  • Light gardening
  • Small carpentry tasks
  • Basic plumbing
  • Installing shelves
  • Decorating
  • Repairing garden fences
  • Other relevant duties

Supporting DIY needs in our community

Communities 1st delivers a Handy Person Service to assist individuals aged 60+ or on benefits, living in Hertsmere and St Albans & District, with tasks they are unable to perform themselves.

What We’re Looking For

  • Volunteers aged 16+
  • Some experience in DIY tasks with a commitment to high standards
  • Friendly, caring individuals with a passion for helping others

Requirements:

  • References will be required
  • Enhanced DBS clearance (due to working with vulnerable adults)
