What is the Community Car Scheme?
This is a safe, secure, and affordable door-to-door service for people who are unable to use public transport because of mobility problems or other special needs.
Volunteers use their own cars; folded wheelchairs may be taken in most. They are not trained to assist in wheelchair-to/from-car transfers, so users must be able to do this themselves. If a wheelchair user is unable to transfer, please ring to speak to a member of staff. We may be able to arrange for you to use our wheelchair-accessible car.
Where are Community Cars available?
The Community Car Scheme has operated in Borehamwood and Shenley since 2001 and in Potters Bar since 2009. Currently, it runs across the borough of Hertsmere (including Aldenham, Borehamwood, Bushey, Elstree, Potters Bar, Radlett, Ridge, Shenley, South Mimms, and Well End).
Is there a charge?
A £10 individual membership is required to access this service.
There is also a minimum charge of £4 for the first five miles and then 60p per mile thereafter.
