We have an engaging week ahead! This newsletter highlights some upcoming important and meaningful campaigns which may take your interest. 

Sunday 4th February is "World Cancer Day". This day contributes to give its contribution in the fight against cancer through education, raising awareness and encouraging well informed positive actions. You 'll find new ideas on how to make your contribution here.

The following campaigns all hake place next week (5th-11th February).

National HIV Testing Week 2024 is an annual campaign that aims to promote HIV testing, raise awareness about HIV, and reduce the stigma surrounding the virus. You can find out more about this campaign here.

RaceEqualityWeek24 is an annual UK-wide movement uniting hundreds of thousands of organisations and individuals to address the barriers to race equality in the workplace. This year’s theme is #ListenActChange – because we all need to focus on action, change and impact, not just words. 

Children's Mental Health Week is an awareness awareness week seeking to empower, equip and give a voice to all children and young people in the UK, enabling an openness about mental health struggles.

 

Come to see us in our community centres next week and attend our "Grow Your Own Sunshine - Family Activity & Learning Sessions", an inclusive community gardening project for all ages.
There will be lots of activities and complimentary refreshments for everyone! More information is available in the newsletter below.

Grow Your Own Sunshine - Family Activity & Learning Sessions

This is an inclusive community gardening project for all "ages taking place as part of "Feeling Good Week".
Come rain or shine, there will be gardening activities for you to enjoy outdoors and indoors, talks and exercises, health checks and complimentary refreshments for everyone!

Activities will include:

  • Seed planting

  • Preparing planters and baskets for spring
  • Building bug hotels and bird feeders
  • Garden decorating and decorating plant pots
  • Learning about seed growing stages
  • Learning about your green footprint.

Dates:

  • 5th February (3.30pm-5.30pm) - Borehamwood - Farriers way 
  • 6th February (3pm-5pm) - Radlett - Phillimore Community centre.
  • 7th February (3pm-5pm)- Borehamwood - Aberford Community Centre.
  • 9 February (3pm-5pm)- Borehamwood - Organ Hall.

Mental Health Awareness
There is an increasing acknowledgement of the importance of the role of mental health in the wellbeing of individuals and the community as a whole. Being aware of your mental health can substantially reduce long term physical and mental health conditions and the stigma around it.

The objectives of this course, that is aimed at residents across Hertfordshire are:

  • To be able to recognise stress and anxiety and other mental health conditions.
  • To have a good understanding of what support is available to people with mental health conditions
  • To be able to manage stress in day-to-day life.

Home Upgrade Grant opportunities for households in St Albans

The Home Upgrade Grant (HUG2) Scheme that has been launched to assist families living in energy inefficient properties that are not connected to the gas network in the St Albans District. The grant is available to home-owners and private tenants.

 

The Home Upgrade Grant (HUG) is open to homes that meet the following criteria:
• Homes not heated by mains gas, which includes oil, coal, LPG or electric heating.
• Households with a combined annual income of less than £31,000 (gross) or receiving an income-related means-tested benefit such as Universal Credit.
• Hard to heat homes–(EPCs rated D or lower).
