Assistant Manager: Community Development

About this role
The role will support the operational management, performance, and control of our Communities 1st services. In this position, you will help develop and deliver a range of community-focused services, working closely with senior management to maintain operational excellence. You will also play a part in supporting the organisation’s marketing and growth ambitions. As an integral member of the team, you will be expected to use your excellent people skills to train, mentor, and support a small team of staff and volunteers who deliver a variety of services to both organisations and individuals. This role requires an organised and adaptable individual who can manage a range of tasks with flexibility and a positive, engaging attitude when interacting with diverse stakeholders.

The Assistant Manager: Community Development plays a pivotal role in connecting our organisation with local communities, businesses, and voluntary groups. his position is responsible for managing a small team who will operationally deliver our Better Days Hubs, Creative Cafes, Peer to Peer Support Groups, Community Gardening Project, Community Bowls Centre, Cooker Groups, and other community initiatives. By responding to local feedback and emerging needs, you will ensure our projects are both engaging and impactful. You will also facilitate the transition of established contacts and projects to other teams (e.g. Volunteer Centre, Community Services, or Better Business) when appropriate.

Cleaner / Caretaker

Hours: zero - casual hours.
Salary: £10.53 - £12 per hour.

About this role
The role of the Cleaner / Caretaker role is to provide a comprehensive cleaning service at the Community Centres managed by Communities 1st and to provide occasional holiday cover for office cleaning at Ver House.

The successful applicant will be required to open and close the community centre for occasional hirers as required both during the week and at weekends. Regular hirers of the centres have their own keys and do not need this service.

The Community and Partnerships Coordinator – is a high-level administrative and operational role that supports the organisation by engaging with stakeholders and coordinating a diverse range of activities. In this role you will ensure the smooth delivery of programmes and initiatives, maintaining ongoing relationships, and recruiting and managing volunteers. You will work closely with internal teams, external partners, and community representatives to facilitate seamless collaboration and ensure that all operational aspects are delivered to a high standard.

Our charity is committed to enhancing community well-being and fostering social inclusion through community-driven initiatives. We deliver essential services via our Mobile Social Supermarket, Compassionate Community Connector, and Befriending programmes, all designed to empower our members and support volunteers. By working with local partners and organisations, we ensure that our services are responsive, inclusive, and tailored to meet the diverse needs of our community.

The Community Support Facilitator will be integral to the smooth operation of our Mobile Social Supermarket, working in close collaboration with the Social Supermarket Operator and a diverse team of volunteers. This role is multifaceted, incorporating retail management, volunteer coordination, and direct community engagement through our Befriending service and Compassionate Community Connector (CCC) programme. The ideal candidate is organised, proactive, and committed to enhancing community well-being through innovative service delivery.

Community Transport Minibus Driver

Hours: 16 per week.

About this role
Communities 1st runs Shopper Bus services, day trips and transport to and from social fun clubs. Working for the community as a Community Transport Minibus Driver for our Community Transport Scheme, you will provide a valuable service for our elderly and/or disabled members of the public who request transport from door to door. Many of our clients require assistance and therefore drivers need to be physically fit with a caring personality. If you like driving and have caring nature and want to be part of a growing transport team this role could be for you!

The role is based primarily in Hertsmere, Three Rivers, Watford and Welwyn and Hatfield districts, although you may be required to work throughout the county of Hertfordshire.

The Mobile Supermarket Operator plays a vital role in delivering our mobile social supermarket service, ensuring that affordable food reaches communities in need. This role combines safe vehicle operation, customer engagement, and volunteer support to create a welcoming and accessible shopping experience for customers. As the driver of the mobile supermarket, you will be responsible for transporting the vehicle to various community locations, ensuring it is well-maintained and compliant with road safety regulations. Alongside this, you will engage with customers, assisting them with their shopping experience, handling transactions, and ensuring that they feel supported.

The role is based at Ver House in Frogmore with travel to various community locations across Hertfordshire.
