Community Open Day – launch of Aberford Community Bowling Green
Communities 1st welcomes budding bowlers to test their talent at the Aberford Community Bowling Green, in Borehamwood. Visitors of all ages will have an opportunity to learn new skills and make new friends.
Aberford Community Bowling Green officially opens on the afternoon of Wednesday 7th August (1pm – 5pm) where everyone is welcome to come along to this free event and try out the sport - we cater for players of all ages and abilities.
As well as taking part in a game or two, guests will be able to enjoy tea and cake, peruse stalls and talk to other groups that provide a range of activities locally.
Stuart Nagler, Chair of Communities 1st said: “Outdoor bowls is often a widely misrepresented game. It will be great to see youngsters enjoying the bowling as it can have a reputation as a senior citizens’ sport but it’s just not true, it’s for anybody really. With its low barrier to entry, bowling at Aberford Community Bowling Green might just be the perfect activity to fill local people’s summer evenings!”
Stephen Craker, Chief Executive added, “It’s not an expensive pastime. It can cost as little as £2.50 per hour per person. It’s a social thing, however I would like to encourage people to consider the physical aspects of bowling as well as its social benefits. It’s a way to improve health and fitness. Individuals aged from 9 to 99 can take part. It helps to keep your bones moving and strong. It’s all about being out in the fresh air with friends on the green, keeping active.”
Communities 1st are keen to invite more people to take part, and welcome players of all ages and abilities. Coaching sessions will be available in due course to make sure that everyone has the opportunity to join in.
