Volunteering Opportunity: Health & Independent Living Support with Friendship House (HILs)

Friendship House is a welcoming, inclusive community hub for older and disabled adults living in Hatfield and the surrounding areas. We run a range of activities every day, such as crafts, games, singing, quizzes, and we offer a hot two-course lunch as well. We are looking for more volunteers to help us with the smooth running of the activities in the hubs.

Opportunity Type: Short-term Commitment

Time of day: Weekday Afternoons, Weekday Evenings

Practical Considerations: We are particularly looking for volunteers who have the following attributes:

Enthusiasm; motivation; a desire to learn; experience working with elderly people (desirable not essential); active listening skills; reliability and punctuality; a non-judgmental outlook.

Requirements: Will require a criminal record check (DBS)

Suitable for: 18 – 25 year olds, Aged 26 and over, University students, Older People

Suitable for volunteers interested in: Carers Support, Crisis Support, Health and Wellbeing, Older People, Social Activities, Voluntary & Community Action

Full Description:
If you are a caring and outgoing person, we need you!

Responsibilities:

Prepare the room in the morning for any of the days activities
Greet clients upon arrival
Prepare teas and coffees, water, and squash, throughout the day
Serve food and drink choices during lunch hours
Clean and sanitise areas
Assist with games and quizzes throughout the day
De-brief with the Activities Co-ordinator at the beginning and end of the day
Engage with clients throughout the day


(The debrief at the beginning should consist of the plan for the day, involving any client concerns and/or issues to be mindful of. The debrief at the end of the day should involve you handing over any relevant information before leaving – This should be done in the office, as confidential client information may be discussed)
