Upcoming Courses

A New You

A New You is a four-day training course to help improve your social, money management and communication skills both at home and in your place of work or volunteering. The course covers a range of topics and practical skills.

Our session topics are:

  • Team Work
  • Being Assertive
  • Stress Awareness
  • Communication / Life Skills.

We recommend that you attend all four sessions. If you do, you will receive a certificate at the end of the course. If you would like to attend some but not all sessions, please get in touch with us.

Carbon Monoxide - Introductory Workshop

Hosted by the Gas Safe Charity.

 

This workshop will teach you what carbon monoxide is and how it is formed, the sources, signs and symptoms of CO poisoning, how to help prevent it, and the implications are for you and those around you.  This course is delivered through a mix of presentations, scenarios and practical exercises, making it perfect for both the general public and front-line staff and volunteers.

Deaf Awareness and Basic BSL

Hosted by Hertfordshire's Hearing Advisory Service.

In this session, you will gain confidence and basic skills to communicate with those who are living with deafness and hearing loss. You will understand deafness, including signs that someone cannot hear you, body positions, and ways of communicating.

Death, Dying and Loss Awareness

Death, Dying and Loss Awareness Session

The session will be a look at Why don’t we talk about death? What a good death is for yourself? Communication techniques​, Empathy vs Sympathy​, some the Theories of loss and What to do & say. The session is to help people feel more confident in supporting people who might have a palliative care diagnosis and those who are bereaved. We will explore the social context of death and dying, considering the impact on good end-of-life care and bereavement support.

Ask, Chat, Planning for the Future (Advance Care Planning)

An awareness session, that will serve as an introduction for Staff and volunteers in the Voluntary Sector, Healthcare staff, and the wider public on what Advance Care Planning (ACP) is.

The session will include an opportunity to start thinking and talking about end-of-life care wishes and preferences. This session is for those who wish to explore more about ACP and what to include, for example Lasting Power of Attorney, ReSPECT, Advance Decisions to refuse treatment, and will introduce you to some of the templates that can be used to facilitate the process either for yourself, your loved ones, or those that you are working with.

Grief Awareness

Delivered by David Kelly, Community Engagement Coordinator, Rennie Grove Peace Hospice Care

Grief Awareness’ workshop will offer a brief introduction to the topic of grief & loss. It will provide you with some common reactions that people may have in grief, as well as some misunderstandings about grief. Additionally, it will also offer some key advice for individuals who may either be supporting someone who is grieving or experiencing grief themselves.

Insight into Gambling Harms

Mental Health Awareness

There is an increasing acknowledgement of the importance of the role of mental health in the wellbeing of individuals and the community as a whole. Being aware of your mental health can substantially reduce long-term physical and mental health conditions, and the stigma around it.

Sight Loss Awareness

This course will help you understand sight loss and how to support people living with sight loss. It will introduce you to common sight loss conditions and how they affect vision. It will also cover the role of volunteers in supporting people with vision loss and the help they can seek.

Understanding Anxiety
