Full Description:
Role Overview: As a Trustee with legal experience, you will play a key role in the strategic decision-making of the organisation, ensuring we operate within the law and adhere to best practices in governance. Your legal expertise will be invaluable in providing insight on legal matters, risk management, and compliance to help steer our charity towards continued success and positive impact.
Key Responsibilities:
• Attend Board meetings and contribute to the strategic
development and decision-making of the charity.
• Provide legal advice and guidance on a range of issues,
including charity law, compliance, governance, and risk
management.
• Ensure that the organisation adheres to legal and
regulatory obligations, including safeguarding, data
protection, and employment law.
• Advise the Board on potential legal risks and how to
mitigate them.
• Assist in the review and drafting of key legal documents,
such as contracts, policies, and terms of service.
• Support the development of the charity's policies and
procedures to ensure they align with legal and regulatory
frameworks.
• Contribute to fundraising strategy and governance as it
pertains to legal aspects.
• Help ensure that the charity’s activities align with its
mission, values, and legal obligations.
Person Specification:
• Qualified legal professional with expertise in charity law,
governance, or another relevant area (e.g., corporate law,
contract law, employment law).
• Previous experience as a Trustee, Board member, or senior
leader in a charity or similar non-profit organization is an
advantage.
• A strong understanding of the legal and regulatory
environment in which charities operate.
• Ability to think strategically and work collaboratively as part of a diverse Board of Trustees.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Commitment to the organisation’s mission and values.
• Strong ethical framework, integrity, and accountability.
