The number of scams reported to the Citizens Advice network has increased sharply in 2021, with a 123% increase when comparing the first five months of the year with the same period in 2020.
Research in December 2020 by the Communications Consumer Panel found that those aged under 35 were the most susceptible to being scammed and accounted for over half of all the scams experienced (52%). Younger people are most likely to be targeted by text / messaging scams (61%).
In order to protect people from falling victim we need to raise awareness of how to spot scams. We also need to ensure support is on hand for people if they do fall victim to a scam
This session will help you recognise scams, common scams circulating at the moment , encourage people to report scams, information about the steps to take if you fall victim to a scam and support available.
Scams prevention is a national Citizens Advice priority and raising awareness of potentially fraudulent activity and to support the victims of scams is part of the general service offered by them.
