DS Achieve is looking for volunteers to join their fantastic team to run their Youth Group.
The Youth Group, for school-aged children with Down Syndrome, is part of DS Achieve's Young Achievers programme, which aims to help children with Down Syndrome to develop their social communication skills and grow their independence, while taking part in a variety of fun activities in a safe environment.
The Youth Group takes place each week during term-time on a Saturday afternoon. There is a session for primary school children (aged 4-11 years) which runs from 2:30-3:30pm and a session for secondary school-aged children (12 -17) which runs from 4-5:30pm.
Volunteers are especially needed from 2.45-3.45pm to support the younger group.
Volunteers should have experience of working with children, be warm and friendly, be happy to get involved with the activities and to help encourage the children to join in. Volunteers will never be on their own with a child and will always be supported by other team members. Travel costs can be paid. Support to learn the role and safeguarding training (and potentially formal training regarding Down Syndrome, if needed) will be given.

Full Description:
DS Achieve is looking for enthusiastic individuals to work closely with and support our staff and children/young people at our weekly Youth Group.

The DS Achieve Youth Group is a weekly, term-time only developmental activity group for school/college age children/young people with Down Syndrome. The aim of the Youth Group is to support children and young people to reach their potential through a programme that builds skills and provides friendship, fun and positivity. The group will give them the opportunity to participate in games and activities designed to help them develop teamwork, social skills and other practical skills for life. The group also offers the chance for participants to be active and to have improved wellbeing.

Children and teenagers with Down Syndrome often find it difficult to access social opportunities that are not tailored to meet their individual needs. The Youth Group provides them with a safe environment to develop the skills they need to thrive in their communities.
