We can offer a pleasant environment, guidance and support, and free books! Once you've been with us for some time, we can also give you a reference which you can use for future volunteering or job opportunities.

As a volunteer, there's no minimum commitment to the number of shifts you do, and neither do you have to do the same shift every week. You can sign up to the shifts that you want on our rota.

We are open Monday to Saturday 11am - 4pm, and the volunteer shifts are split into 11am - 1:30pm and 1:30 - 4pm.

Free Books Hatfield is a small independent book rehoming charity run entirely by volunteers. Our aims are to prevent books from going to landfill and promote reading in the community by giving out free books.
The public donates books to us, we sort and put them on our shelves, and then customers can come in and take up to 8 books for free per visit (to include no more than 5 children's books). We are open from 11am to 4pm, Monday to Saturday, and have rehomed over 400,000 books since we were established in 2016.
