Full Description:
Help is required at a weekly conversation group for local people with speech difficulty (Aphasia) following stroke. For these people intelligence, personality and the desire to make friends is still intact, but words don’t come so freely; so our helpers encourage communication in all forms using pictures, words, drawings and gestures to get the conversation flowing. Our conversation group is a safe place providing sympathetic listening and encouragement from volunteers and other group members, as well as excellent coffee and biscuits! We also organise occasional group outings locally. The group generally has between 6 – 12 members and requires 2 – 3 helpers each week to assist with serving refreshments and supporting conversation. Training will be provided by the local Speech and Language therapist.
