What is the Community Car Scheme?
The Community Car Scheme is dedicated to providing a reliable, accessible transport solution for individuals who face challenges using public transport due to mobility issues or special needs. Becoming a driver means you can help Communities 1st provide the community convenient door-to-door travel experience, picking up people directly from their homes and delivering them to their destination in comfort, combatting the risk of social isolation.
We are committed to making travel easier and more comfortable for our local community.

What locations does the service cover?
Community Cars is dedicated to providing comfort and convenience directly to people's doorsteps. Since the beginning of this service in 2001, we have grown to serve the entire borough of Hertsmere, ensuring our service is more readily avaliable.
Our coverage includes:
- Aldenham
- Borehamwood
- Bushey
- Elstree
- Potters Bar
- Radlett
- Ridge
- Shenley
- South Mimms
- Well End
Practical Considerations
- Must have a drivers license
- Must have your own roadworthy vehicle or access to a vehicle
No formal qualifications or prior experience required to volunteer with us.
This opportunity is suitable for those people who would like to get our and about, providing practical, sociable support to shoppers who are less able bodied.
We welcome volunteers from all backgrounds and abilities.
A full charity induction will be given before the volunteer starts with us and ongoing training is offered depending on what you are working on.
This role is based in your local community at various shopping locations.
