Friends of Jersey Lane

Jersey Lane is a route for pedestrians and non-motorised vehicles linking the communities of Marshalswick, Jersey Farm and Sandridge.

Friends of Jersey Lane was established in 2023 as a voluntary grass roots organisation to maintain and improve this green corridor. Our aim is to improve the biodiversity of the Lane, protect the trees and shrubs, encourage birds, bats and butterflies, whilst still ensuring it is a safe route for social users and commuters.
Friends of Jersey Lane aims to engage and work with residents to promote stewardship of non-built heritage along Jersey Lane, conservation of natural assets and the enhancement of biodiversity.

We support the existing Greenspace Action Plan (GAP) and contribute to the development of future plans at local and strategic levels. We aim to identify key natural assets along and adjacent to Jersey Lane, promote their protection and work with all levels of Local Goverment, particularly the Countryside Management Service of Herts County Council, to protect and enhance the green infrastructure of the Lane.
FoJL is run by a volunteer committee and organises regular volunteer work groups to carry out tasks along the Lane. There is no membership subscription - we just invite local people to join via email. We communicate by members via email and Facebook. We have a website page.
We are largely dependent on grants for funding although we have also now joined the Community Lottery.
