Communities 1st are searching for Mentors for our supported volunteers. The project aims to enable adults that have additional needs to volunteer, we achieve this by providing our supported volunteers with a volunteer mentor, offer training to both the volunteer and the mentors and then provide a safe environment within an organisation that can offer this type of role to our volunteers.
Communities 1st are a membership organisation, dedicated to supporting the Voluntary, Community, Faith, CIC, Social Enterprises and small-medium sized Businesses. We develop and promote a healthier and more thriving community by supporting and enabling people.
What will I be doing?
- We are looking for mentors to be able to support our volunteers to enable them to gain new experiences and develop skills whilst volunteering within local organisations
- We will provide the mentor with full training on safe guarding and mentoring, as well as a full DBS check
About the Organisation
Since being created in 2009 from a merger of two community organisations within Hertsmere, Communities 1st has grown into a successful charitable organisation with strong links to the communities in which we work.
Communities 1st aims to develop and promote a healthier and more thriving community by supporting and enabling people to become more actively involved in the community. We encourage individual volunteering and support groups working to achieve benefits for our community.
Our specific projects have been supported by reputable funders such as the National Lottery, European Social Fund, Hertfordshire County Council, Hertsmere Borough Council and Affinity Sutton Housing as well as many local businesses.
We involve volunteers in a variety of roles and have something to suit all skills, talents, interests and availability. You will be valued and supported in whichever role you decide to undertake and the chances are you'll have fun too!
What are they looking for?
We are looking for someone with the following skills and experience
- The ideal Mentor does not need relevant experience although this would support an application
- We are looking for an approachable and positive individual who will be able to provide social, emotional and practical support to our volunteer on placement
- This role also includes getting involved with tasks along side the supported volunteer
- Commitment for a minimum of 3 months
