British Sandwich Week (22nd- 28th May) celebrates the humble sandwich in all its many glorious forms as well as the contribution that the sandwich industry makes to our economy. You'll find some yummy inspiration to help you create the perfect Sandwich here

  

Diabetes UK joins forces with NHS England as proud campaign partners for Type 2 Diabetes Prevention Week (Monday 23rd May -Sunday 29th). NHS England has created a digital toolkit which includes everything needed to support the week digitally.  We periodically arrange dedicated training sessions on this topic, so keep an eye out for our next Diabetes Awareness Training.

 

The National Epilepsy Week campaign takes place 22nd-28th May. Follow it using the hashtag #epilepsymatters and support their aim to raise awareness of epilepsy and relates conditions. If you would like to find out what matters most to people living with epilepsy and those close to them, you can find out more about the condition here.

 

Please note that whilst our Community Hub, at 5 Leeming Road, Borehamwood is closed for repairs due to flood damage, support is still available! We’re making every possible effort to ensure alternative provision is available for those who need to meet with us but in the meantime please do give us a call at 01727 649930 or write to us.

You're invited to have your say on a new scheme to encourage local food businesses to provide healthier food choices. The new Healthier Catering scheme will reward businesses for offering healthier options and developing greater business sustainability.

New online mental health digital advice service for 10-25s

The Sandbox is an NHS-funded service to support children and young people in Hertfordshire with their mental health and well-being.

This new free NHS funded service launched on 1st April 2023 and offers a website, with access to games, worksheets, group chats and online events for children, young people, their parents/carers, teachers and other professionals. The Sandbox provides access to internet enabled Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (iCBT), or one to one support from professional therapists by text, phone, online chat or video call, based on a triage of the young person’s needs: 

Therapy sessions: 7am-10pm Mondays-Fridays and 10am-10pm Saturdays and Sundays
Live Chat: 10am-8pm Mondays-Fridays

Are you eligible for financial help?

If you have young children or are pregnant, you could get help from the Healthy Start scheme:

- £4.25 each week for children between 1 and 4 years old
- £8.50 each week for children from birth to 1 year old
- £4.25 each week of pregnancy from the 10th week

You can also visit your local Family Centre for free vitamins if you are 10 weeks+ pregnant or for your child/ren under 4.

Fit, Fed and Read Camps are back for May Half Term!

Camps will be running for four days (Tuesday 30th May to Friday 2nd June) and spaces are still available at Mandeville Primary School, St Albans.

Time: 10am-3pm
2 course FREE hot lunch
Eligibility: 8–11-year-olds; must be eligible and in receipt of free school meals

Missing Pieces Project

Historic England's new project invites you to share your pictures and stories of the unique, significant and memorable places on the National Heritage List for England. Your view of a place is as unique as you are, so every snapshot and story you add is an important piece of the picture.

CLP Course Art for Wellbeing

This Art for Wellbeing course is funded by Step2Skills, and will be running in St Albans next month. It is aimed at Hertfordshire residents aged 19+ who haven't previously taken a CLP course which has been funded by Step2Skills

National Walking Month

Hertfordshire County Council wants to encourage everyone to try walking as a way to clear the air and create a cleaner, greener and healthier Hertfordshire #walkingtocleartheair.

There are walks for all abilities and backgrounds.  Our entry level First Steps walk is ideal for those who are otherwise inactive or are returning after injury or illness.  And you will meet others in the same situation.

FREE women's safety talk

Would you like tips to help keep you safe day-to-day? If so, please come along to our FREE women's safety talk in Borehamwood. The session will cover risk awareness, safety on the street, stalking, conflict management and much more.  We will discuss personal safety in both your professional and personal life; including public transport, traveling to and from home, lone working and work visits. We also look at how to use technology to assist with your safety and avoid pitfalls.

Free refreshments will be available from 6.30pm with talks starting at 6.45pm. Parking is free in the Civic Offices car park from 6.30pm. 

Wednesday 24 May, 6.30pm -8.30pm at the Civic Offices in Borehamwood.

Come along to Back2Bowls
Ever fancied trying your hand at bowls? Free sessions take place in Borehamwood every Wednesday from 1-3pm at Aberford Community Centre, WD6 1PL. 

During the session you will be given techniques and tips on how to improve your play. No previous experience needed and equipment will be provided.

Everyone is welcome and there will be refreshments provided as well as other activities to try. For more information please email here.
