Funding Focus August Edition

As usual, this month's newsletter provides information on numerous potential sources of funding but we also have news of an event taking place next month which could provide you with even more opportunities.

After a break of several years, the Hertfordshire Funding Fair is returning, taking place on Tuesday 10 September at the University of Hertfordshire.

The event is being organised by Community Help Hertfordshire and Herts Sport & Physical Activity Partnership. This free event allows you to:

• Talk to funders and browse the information stands
• Take part in workshops delivered by experts
• Learn more about the latest funding and development opportunities
• Look at wider issues around sustainability
• Network with other voluntary sector colleagues to share news, views and ideas

This in person course will cover everything you need to know about book keeping for your small organisation over six modules. 

Grants of up to £2,000 are available and are intended to help finance time-limited projects run by smaller organisations. Applications can be made throughout the year until Sunday 5 January 2025 with a Grants Panel meeting each month to review them.

You can start raising funds for your cause with St Albans District Community Lottery.
It's a no risk option because it's absolutely free to set up! St Albans District takes a small percentage from every ticket sold to cover the costs of running the lottery.

By selling just 50 tickets a week you can raise £1,300 every year. Tickets are £1 a week with a top prize of £25,000! 

Hertsmere Community Lottery is an online sustainable fundraising solution designed to help local not-for-profits to diversify their fundraising streams and enable year-round fundraising in a safe, fun and effective way.
Tickets cost £1 with 60p going towards local good causes.

The draw is weekly with a jackpot of £25,000 for a matching sequence of six numbers, other prizes being £2,000, £250, £25 or three free tickets.

The Matthew Good Foundation has opened the next round of its Grants for Good Fund.

The aim is to support small charities, not-for-profit groups, and social entrepreneurs who are passionate about making a difference for people, their communities, and the environment.

Charities across the UK are invited to apply for funding to deliver projects that bring about genuine social change in their communities.

The funding is made available by the Linder Foundation, which supports projects that aim to improve outcomes for vulnerable young people, protect and enhance the natural world, and support and champion the arts.

Deadline: Sunday 31 October 2024

Grants of up to £10,000 are available to support small, grassroots and local charities currently delivering services to the young, vulnerable, elderly, disadvantaged or the general community across the UK.

Deadline: Wednesday 31 January 2025

Grants of up to £10,000 are available to registered charities for projects that positively impact communities. The Morrisons Foundation provides funding to support projects that tackle poverty and social deprivation, enhance community spaces, facilities and services, and improve the health and wellbeing of local communities.  

Applications can be made at any time.

Not-for-profit organisations across the UK can now apply for grants of between £250,000 and £10 million for projects connecting people and communities to UK heritage.

The funding can support a broad range of activities and project costs such as volunteer expenses, capital works, repairs, maintenance, conservation costs, professional fees, event costs, and the acquisition of heritage.

Grants are available to charities, specialist schools, CIOs, and other not-for-profit organisations including scout and guide groups, and housing associations, that are working to raise the quality of life for people in England and Wales.

The funding is focused on four community-led missions supporting communities to come together, be environmentally sustainable, help children and young people thrive, and enable people to live healthier lives

Grants of up to £1,000 are available to small local grassroots organisations fighting social, economic and environmental injustice across the UK and Ireland.

To be eligible for a grant, groups must have an annual income of less than £20,000, be committed to creating long-term societal change by addressing the root causes of injustice and inequality, and be led by the communities they serve.

Deadline: Sunday 13 September 2024

Small Homeless charities can apply for capital grants of up to £5,000 from Help the Homeless for projects that aim to help homeless people return to the community and enable them to rebuild their lives. 

To be eligible to apply, the charity must have an annual turnover of under £500,000, with ‘unrestricted reserves’ of under six months.

Deadline: Tuesday 15 September 2024

Grants of up to £5,000 are available to registered charities to support projects that equip people (18 or older) from disadvantaged groups with the critical life skills necessary to gain employment.

Deadline: Monday 16 September 2024 for stage 1 applications

Small-to-mid-size registered charities helping improve the quality of life of people in the UK, particularly those disadvantaged and vulnerable, can apply for grants of up to £5,000. The funding is being made available through the Hedley Foundation.

Deadline: Wednesday 25 September 2024

Charities and Community Amateur Sports Clubs (CASCs) throughout the United Kingdom can apply for grants of up to £50,000.

The grant scheme aims to provide opportunities for sport and physical activity at a grassroots level that enable physically, mentally, socially or economically disadvantaged people to develop personal and life skills to fulfil their potential.

Deadline: Tuesday 1 October 2024

Grants of up to £6,000 are available to registered charities working to improve the wellbeing, welfare and education of children and adults in communities throughout the UK.

Deadline: Thursday 31 October 2024

Registered charities can apply for grants for projects that support offenders and ex-offenders as well as into work and helping specific less popular groups within the criminal justice sector.

The Weavers' Company has two funding streams: a Small Grants Programme offering up to £5,000, and a Main Grants Programme with no maximum limit.

Not-for-profit organisations led by and for under-represented groups within the LGBT+ community in England can apply for a share of £500,000 in funding to help them stay well-resourced, sustainable and resilient.

UK charities, voluntary organisations, and schools can apply for grants to help both children and adults suffering from severe learning difficulties, together with autism.

Applications for £9,000 and below can be submitted at any time

The CLA Charitable Trust is dedicated to helping those who are disabled or disadvantaged to visit and participate in learning experiences about the countryside

Applications can be made at any time

Grants ranging from £500 to £2,750 are available for schools, youth groups, non-profit organisations, and charities to support recreational trips or holidays within the UK for groups of disadvantaged or disabled children 13 years old or younger.

Deadline: Saturday 19 November 2024

The Ironmonger Company is looking for projects that deliver clearly defined educational benefits to a specific group of children or young people. Preference will be given to projects piloting new approaches where the outcomes will be disseminated to a wider audience.

Grants of up to £15,000 are available to UK charities and not-for-profit organisations working with young people aged 12-21 who are socially excluded or marginalised, and who are experiencing or may have experienced significant issues within their lives.

Grants of up to £2,400 are available to support the needs of vulnerable children and young people who have experienced a recent crisis or change in life that has had a significant impact on their wellbeing and their education.

Schools, charities and not-for-profit organisations in the UK can apply for funding for equipment that helps mentally, physically and socially disadvantaged children.

Registered charities and not-for-profit organisations working with disadvantaged children and young people aged 18 and under can apply for grants of up to £40,000 per year for up to three years to help support their core costs.

Schools, colleges and community groups in England can apply for grants to support the education and development of children and young people through educational, cultural, sporting and other projects. Of particular interest are projects which will help enhance the self-confidence, team working skills and future employability of children and young people.

The Education Endowment Foundation funds and evaluate projects taking place in educational settings in England that will raise the attainment and wider outcomes of children and young people from socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds.

This funding round will focus on the priority areas of writing and secondary mathematics.

Grants of up to £5,000 are available for projects or activities that benefit older people in St Albans and District. This includes events, art materials, running costs, hall hire and transport. The Trust however is open to funding a range of items.

Charitable organisations with projects tackling loneliness among older people and adults with a disability can apply for grants of up to £2,500.

Grants of up to £7,000 are available to charities in the UK to support preventative and early community based intervention programmes that focus on helping older people stay in their own homes and maintain their independence.

Grants can be used to cover essential expenses such as purchasing a new fridge, paying unexpected bills, food, clothing, or covering gas and electricity costs. Referral Agents will write and submit the application on the older person’s behalf, ensuring they understand their situation, the support required and assessing any evidence.

Grants of £1,000 - £5,000 are available for local projects that help strengthen communities across the UK.

The Delamere Dairy Foundation will support charities, community groups, social enterprises and other not-for-profit organisations delivering projects that benefit communities through the advancement of agriculture and environmental protection by improving the lives of young people and education and relieving financial hardship and sickness.

The Veolia Environmental Trust has launched its latest funding round, offering grants to support community and environmental initiatives. Available grants include community grants and habitat and biodiversity grants, both ranging from £10,000 to £75,000, designed for not-for-profit organisations and local authorities.

The Tree Council is inviting applications through the Branching Out fund.

Through the Fund, community groups and tree warden networks within the UK can apply for grants of between £250 and £2,500 to get communities and young people up to the age of 21 involved in planting and caring for trees, hedges and orchards.

Deadline: Sunday 1 December 2024

Material Focus has announced that its Electricals Recycling Fund is due to reopen to applications for projects that make it easier for UK householders to recycle their electrical goods. Organisations can register their details to receive updates on the 2024 funding round.

UK based schools and not for profit organisations can apply for funding to the Nineveh Charitable Trust for a broad range of projects and activities that promote a better understanding of the environment and countryside, whilst facilitating improved access, education and research.

St Albans Greener Together is launching a Net Zero Fund. The Fund will provide grants for not-for-profit organisations, community groups and small to medium sized enterprises (SMEs) to deliver sustainability projects that will benefit St Albans District linked to energy and transport.

Applicants can apply for funding between £2,000 and £20,000. The fund will open for applications in September 2024. Read more about the criteria and application process.

Grants of up to £500 are available to groups who are able to transport residents to their local community activities including warm spaces and lunch clubs. Especially those who live in rural areas.

UK churches requiring urgent maintenance works and high-priority small repairs can apply for grants from £500 to £5,000.

Registered charities whose activities support and encourage the family to work as a cohesive unit in tackling problems that face one or more of its members can apply for grants of up to £5,000 (but trustees will consider requests for higher amounts) through the Kelly Family Charitable Trust.

Deadline: Sunday 1 September 2024

UK-registered charities working to combat human rights abuses can apply for grants of £10,000 to £30,000 per year for up to three years. The funding is available to charities supporting migrants, refugees, asylum seekers, criminal justice reform, and access to justice.

Deadline: Friday 25 October 2024

The Movement Fund, worth £160 million over the next four years, will offer crowdfunding pledges, grants and resources to provide physical activity opportunities for the people and communities who need it the most.

Individuals or small groups or organisations in the UK who have a novel technical idea which they want to try out can apply for grants of between £250 and £3,000.
