Let's Give Volunteering Newsletter

We recently ran a very successful Let’s Give campaign to highlight everyone’s amazing skills and to reignite interest from local charities. We are delighted to say that we had 40 new people registering on the Let's Give portal which means more organisations can fill their volunteering vacancies and more people will be supporting their local community.

Have you updated your Let’s Give profile recently?

Because our lives are forever changing and evolving, we would like to ask you all to do a review of your Let’s Give profile. By doing a review and update, you can really showcase your flexibility and skills. Local charities will then be able to get a clearer view of your personal passions and skills.

Herts Welcomes Refugees is looking for volunteers to support regular community hubs run by the Refugee Council. As a volunteer, you will be supporting with children’s activities, informal conversation practice and accompanying individuals to and from the groups.

Mind in Mid Herts is looking for volunteers to provide support and help to develop people's interest in a meaningful activity, enabling the people who use their services to explore thinking and to use writing as a means of expression. The club runs weekly every Tuesday morning. 

Art Salad is a small, non-registered trust looking for a Treasurer to join the founder Trustee Chairman and Secretary to grow their two year running art workshop. This is a free service for older people and people with dementia as well other vulnerable groups.

Highfield Helpers are a group of people who help with the upkeep of Highfield Park, help the environment, get to meet new people and support a charity all in one go! It’s also a great way to get fit for free. No experience is needed as you’ll be working alongside park staff.

They meet at the Visitor Centre, Hill End Lane (opposite Frobisher Road) every Tuesday at 9.30am. You can stay as long or as little as you like up to 4pm.

The Countryside Management Service would like to recruit more volunteers to support existing Hertfordshire Health Walks and set up new, shorter walks for people who are not currently active or are returning to activity after an injury or illness. Join their team of more than 200 volunteers who help others become healthier and happier by walking together outdoors. No experience is necessary. You can lead walks or provide support from the back. Volunteer once a week or once a month - it is up to you! Training is free and nationally accredited.

If you are a caring and outgoing person, HILs would love for you to help as a volunteer at their Kingfisher Dementia Club. The Club is a welcoming, inclusive club for people living with mild to moderate dementia, memory loss, or for anyone who simply wants to join in with the fun! They run a range of activities every day, such as crafts, games, singing, quizzes. They are looking for volunteers to help them with the smooth running of the activities at their club.

Rennie Grove Peace is looking for volunteers to join their supportive care team. They have a busy inbox and the role involves cover of ad-hoc shifts to make sure that the inbox is being monitored at all times. There will be a rota set up a month in advance, and each volunteer can slot themselves into it.

Are you passionate about making a difference in your community? Herts Young Homeless is looking for a dedicated volunteer to support their fundraising department by maintaining the essential fundraising database. In this role, you'll help ensure that accurate and up-to-date information is readily available to the team, enabling them to efficiently support their mission to assist local homeless individuals.

St Albans Good Neighbour Scheme is looking for volunteer drivers to help out with the service that they provide for their clients in the local community. The process is that the driver collects the client from their home at a prearranged time. The client is then driven to their appointment/destination. After the appointment is completed the client is driven home. In many cases, the driver will need to help the client get to their appointment in the hospital and arrange a process where the client can advise the driver they are ready to go home.

Can you spare a couple of hours now and again to join the pool of drivers at The Harpenden Trust? The role requires drivers to do mainly short trips around town, to take their clients to social events and activities. They provide appropriate training for all their volunteers and have adopted a range of policies to support them in their roles.

Hertsmere Mencap supports 250 children and adults with learning disabilities and their families and carers. They run a minibus service taking members to regular social clubs in Borehamwood, St Albans and Hatfield on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Friday evenings. You will only be expected to volunteer once every few weeks as part of a rota, an average of 3 hours per month. You will be assisting the driver collecting members, accompanying them to the local clubs, and helping with picking up from the club, taking them to their front door when necessary.

Are you passionate about helping others and having a positive impact in your community? The Hertfordshire Community Supermarket, delivered by Community Help Hertfordshire (CHH), is a project that requires the support from dedicated and enthusiastic volunteers who are looking to give back to the community.

What will you be doing?

Some of the duties for the community supermarket will include:

• Greeting and assisting customers, including vulnerable individuals
• Helping to stock and organise products
  Assisting with check out and handling transactions
• Ensuring good hygiene standards are kept
• Engaging with the community and raising awareness

Whether you're a seasoned barista or looking to learn the art of creating the perfect cup of coffee, you can volunteer to help us run the coffee cart and make it a success. You'll have the opportunity to connect with new people, develop various skills and - if you're interested - mentor those who are also eager to learn but find it a bit harder than others.

Whether you're able to give a few hours or more a week, your time and energy will be making a meaningful difference. Every cup you serve will help fuel our programme that supports individuals who are working towards a better future.
