We want to say thank you to everyone that attended our recent afternoon tea celebrating the 50th anniversary of Hertsmere Borough Council, we hope you had a lovely afternoon.

Volunteer at an upcoming event near you

Support Communities 1st at the St Albans Festival 2024

On Sunday 22 September 2024, Communities 1st will be hosting the Community Safe Zone at the St Albans Food and Drink Festival. The festival will start at 12pm and is scheduled to end at 6pm.

If you are considering volunteering at local community events like this one, please do feel free to get in touch with us. There will be lots of different activities to support us with and we would be very grateful for your support.

Help deliver popular day trips in your area

Become a volunteer driver to help deliver fun day trips!

Each week, we schedule a fun local day trip across Hertsmere, Watford and Three Rivers, Welwyn Garden City and Hatfield for local residents who find it difficult to get out and about on their own or use public transport.

If you are looking to explore the local area while helping individuals to experience fun outings, why not consider becoming a volunteer minibus driver?

Our fleet of accessible minibuses makes it possible for Communities 1st to deliver weekly day trips across these areas and help to combat social isolation for many people.

'I look forward to the weekly outings. It is the only time throughout the week where I am able to get out of the house and meet new people.' - Hertsmere day trip passenger.

'It's so nice having the driver collect me from the house, I don't have to wait in the cold for unreliable buses at a bus stop.' - Watford Shopper Bus and Day Trip passenger.

Cleaner/Caretaker

About this role:
The role of the Cleaner / Caretaker role is to provide a comprehensive cleaning service at the Community Centres managed by Communities 1st and to provide occasional holiday cover for office cleaning at Ver House.

Become a volunteer gardener today

Do you enjoy gardening and spending time outdoors?

Lots of people across the local community contact Communities 1st on a weekly basis looking for help and support with their gardening. For some people, it is difficult to manage their gardening jobs and they are looking for some help and support.

If you have a passion for gardening and you have the time to help someone in your local area with simple garden maintenance, we would love to hear from you. The gardening role offers a variety of fun outdoor opportunities such as cutting the grass, planting new flowers and tidying up flower beds.

We also have opportunities to assist with gardening activities within our local community centres where you can actively contribute to the maintenance and care of a space for the community to enjoy!
