With the warmer days here, we are receiving lots of enquiries from people in the community looking for support with their gardening. If you want to take part in volunteering opportunities that get you out in the fresh air, please continue reading as we have included lots of information about how you can get started!

Become a volunteer Gardener
Help others to enjoy their outdoor spaces this summer!
Do you want to help people in your community who can no longer maintain their outdoor spaces enjoy the lovely spring weather and spend time in their garden? Then you may be interested in becoming a volunteer gardener.
As a volunteer gardener, you will be able to help people in your community with the light maintenance and upkeep of their outdoor spaces. Some of the tasks may include:
- Cutting the grass
- Maintaining flower beds
- Trimming hedges
- General light maintenance
Volunteering as a gardener means that you get to spend time in the fresh air, enjoying light gardening activities all while helping someone in your community to be able to enjoy their outdoor spaces as the lovely weather continues to roll in.
The opportunities are very flexible to suit around any other commitments you may have, meaning you can accept gardening jobs that are local to you and suit your schedule.
We can provide you with equipment to carry out your gardening activities too!

Monthly Virtual Coffee Mornings with Communities 1st
Join us at the next Virtual Coffee Morning
Thank you to everyone who has attended our virtual coffee morning sessions so far! It has been a lovely opportunity to catch up and keep in touch.
We will continue to run regular sessions, adjusting the frequency from fortnightly to monthly.
The sessions will take place on the last Friday of every month, from 10am to 10:30am.
The sessions are chaired by Emily from the Communities 1st Inclusive Services team, who some of you may be in touch with already through your volunteering activities. If you have any questions about participating in the sessions, you can reach out to Emily or give us a call, or send an email.
The next session is scheduled to take place on 25 April from 10am to 10:30am via Zoom.

Volunteer at Community Help Hertfordshire's Community Supermarket
Are you passionate about helping others and having a positive impact in your community? The Hertfordshire Community Supermarket, delivered by Community Help Hertfordshire (CHH), is a project that requires the support from dedicated and enthusiastic volunteers who are looking to give back to the community.
What is the community supermarket?
Community supermarkets support local communities by providing a range of food and essential goods at a lower cost that a traditional supermarket. The community supermarket is located at five places across Hertfordshire.
What will you be doing?
Some of the duties of the community supermarket will include:
- Greeting and assisting customers, including vulnerable individuals
- Helping to stock and organise products
- Assisting with check out and handling transactions
- Ensuring good hygiene standards are kept
- Engaging with the community and raising awareness
