Fantastic Friday Update

We are heading rapidly towards the end of August and in a sense, summer itself will soon be over. Whether or not you follow the academic year, the end of “the holidays” is usually accompanied by a feeling of back to "normality". But we’re not going to say goodbye to the summer just yet! In this newsletter, you’ll still find loads of ideas and events that will keep you and your family active and entertained in a healthy way.

September is packed with meaningful awareness days. We’re looking forward to great events supporting important campaigns for our Community, coming up next month.

Our Hub in Borehamwood is very close to opening again. Please remember that support is still available in the meantime!  Alternative provision is at hand for anyone who needs to meet with us so please do give us a call at 01727 649930 or write to us. We can’t wait to open our doors to you again in the very near future!

Stay safe, have a lovely weekend and see you soon!

Cervical Screenings Survey

Cervical Screenings help to prevent cancer and the NHS routinely offer them to women and people with a cervix between the ages of 25-64. However, we know that 1 in 4 do not attend their Cervical Screening test.

A survey has been launched to find out what people’s experience of Cervical Screening has been and any reasons why people might not take up the invitation to be screened.

This research will help local NHS ensure that the Cervical Screening programme is having the greatest impact it can.

Let’s Give

Communities 1st has launched a new service for volunteers. You can create your own space on our website so that organisations can find out about you and reach out about their volunteering roles. You won’t need to display any personal contact information as we do all the brokerage, so we will put you in touch with the organisations that have reached out to you. It’s a great way to showcase your skills and experience to local community groups and can help match you with a role where you can make a real difference.

Alternatively, if you work for an organisation that needs volunteers, you will be able to search for volunteers with the skills and interests that match the roles you need to recruit.

For more information contact us by email or call 01727 649953.

Men That Meet

It is thought that 1 in 8 men have a common mental health problem such as depression or anxiety, and social media can often play a part in making these feelings worse.

Communities 1st has helped to establish a new social group in Borehamwood where men can meet other men and connect over good conversation, games etc.

Tuesday 1.30pm - 4pm

Windsor Hall (WD6 4EE)
