Welcome to our Volunteer Centre newsletter.

Last week we hosted a Volunteer Fair at the Laura Trott Centre in Broxbourne. It was great to see so many volunteers and organisations attend the event, which was a great success! If you are local to Broxbourne and East Herts, check out all the volunteering roles we have on offer here.

The Great Big Green Week is the UK’s biggest ever celebration of community action to tackle climate change and protect nature. It will take place between the 8th- 16th June this year. If your organisation is taking part in this, we would love to hear what you have planned so we can share it! Let us know at Volunteer@Communities1st.org.uk

Communities 1st  

General Volunteer with Jersey Farm Day Centre

Jersey Farm Day Centre are looking for volunteers to help at their community centre. Volunteers are needed to help set up the hall from 10:30am. During the day you will interact with their clients and help with serving morning tea/coffee. At lunchtime they serve clients a hot two course meal. Volunteers then help with the washing up on a rota basis. In the afternoon they have various forms of entertainment during which clients may require some help. Clients return home at 3pm and volunteers will be needed to help with clearing the hall.

Eco Hub Volunteer with The Green House

The Green House are looking for friendly hub volunteers to greet people, help them find some answers to their environmental questions and to keep the hub looking welcoming. All volunteers will be supported in their roles and will be shown how to easily source information at the hub. The Eco hub is a hub located in the centre of St Albans where people come and connect to find out ways to reduce their carbon footprint.

Museum Co-ordinator with Potters Bar Museum

Are you an organiser? Do you enjoy local history and heritage? Join Potters Bar Museums friendly team of volunteers and be involved with a variety of interesting activities. They are looking for someone with an interest in history and museums to help with the general running of a small museum in Potters Bar. Supported by other volunteers, the Curator and a Museums Officer from Hertsmere Borough Council. You will play an important part in the running of this small museum.

Drop In Volunteers with Centre 33 St Albans

Centre 33 are looking for volunteers to assist them at their drop in centres. These centres provide an opportunity for those who are homeless, sofa-surfing, otherwise in unsecure accommodation, and those who are in accommodation but have difficulties in coping, to get a warm meal, a hot shower, some supplies and a space to meet others. Both of the spaces they need volunteers to help at are in are in St Albans. These drop in centres are run entirely by volunteers, and both day and evening sessions are managed by a team leader. This role could see you cooking and serving meals, cleaning up at the end of the session, chatting with attendees and full training will be provided. Health Walk Leaders for Herts Health Walks 

The Countryside Management Service would like to recruit more volunteers to support existing Hertfordshire Health Walks and set up new, shorter walks for people who are not currently active or are returning to activity after an injury or illness. Join their team of more than 200 volunteers who help others become healthier and happier by walking together outdoors. No experience is necessary. You can lead walks or provide support from the back. Volunteer once a week or once a month it is up to you. Training is free and nationally accredited. The next training is on the 10th June in Hemel Hempstead.

Social Media Volunteer with St Albans Community Bank

St Albans Community Bank are looking for a social media volunteer to create clear, inviting social media content (primarily Facebook but other platforms will be considered) to generate awareness and engagement among the Community Bank members and attract potential new members in Hertfordshire.

Volunteer Coordinator with Ehlers-Danlos Support UK  

Ehlers-Danlos Support UK are looking for volunteers to provide a positive, informative, sensitive and safe environment for those affected by EDS to share, learn and form a community. This role includes facilitating 4 support groups in your local area, checking social media regularly, responding to emails and attending coordinator meetings.

Art Hub Volunteers with H'arts in Mind

Are you interested in mental well being and art? Would you like to work in an inspiring creative gallery space? H’arts in Mind are looking for volunteers to work in their art hub in Hatfield Galleria.

They are looking for reliable volunteers to share shifts at their new community art hub at the Galleria Shopping Centre in Hatfield, mileage paid and free parking. Tea and coffee provided. Training will also be given to all volunteers.

Van Driver with Rennie Grove Peace Hospice Care

Rennie Grove Peace Hospice are looking for Van Drivers to help with their operations. Their van drivers are a key element of the Retail and Trading operation. They ensure that both new and donated items are moved between their shops, Ecommerce centre and R&T hub to ensure that they maximise the income they can generate for the benefit of their patients and their families. They provide key support to their fast-moving retail environment, where no two days are the same.

Volunteer Drivers with Age Concern St Albans

Can you help Age Concern St Albans for a couple of hours on a Monday or Wednesday to drop off between 9:30am and 10:30am and then take home between 13:30pm and 14:30pm? Age Concern St Albans runs lunch clubs for older people to provide social interaction and combat loneliness. They aim to provide transport to their clients, and they rely on volunteer drivers to help get clients to the clubs. Mileage can be paid for this role.

Transport Driver for St Albans Good Neighbour Scheme

St Albans Good Neighbour Scheme are looking for volunteer drivers to help out with the service that they provide for their clients in the local community. The process is that the driver collects the client from their home at a prearranged time. The client is then driven to their appointment/destination. After the appointment is completed the client is driven home. In many cases the driver will need to help the client get to their appointment in the hospital and arrange a process where the client can advise the driver they are ready to go home.

Hub Helper with Communities 1st

We are looking for volunteers to help at our community shop in Leeming Road as community hub volunteers. As our Hub helper, your main roles will be to greet people when coming into the hub, admin tasks which includes helping visitors fill out application forms, providing information about the charity's activities to the public and helping with any queries they may have.

Able2Enable Support Coach with Communities 1st  

We are looking for Support Coaches for our Able2enable project, which supports individuals to develop key life skills, improving well-being and increasing employability skills. We encourage individuals to grow within their capabilities by providing them with coaching and wellbeing support, training opportunities and supported volunteering placements.

As an Able2enable Support Coach you will be helping with the following: -

• Assisting clients in face-to-face meetings supporting them to build confidence and set goals.
• Helping them job searching or search for volunteering opportunities with them and then supporting them to apply.
• Supporting them to develop self-esteem and resilience through worksheets.
• Working alongside the Lead to ensure that clients are respected and supported.
• Helping to coordinate appointments.
• Managing your own caseload of clients.

We are looking for employment support mentor volunteers. This role involves:

• Assisting clients in face-to-face meetings supporting them to build confidence and set goals.
• Helping them job search or search for volunteering opportunities.
• Assisting people to put CV’s together and support with application forms.
• Helping to coordinate appointments.
• Managing a small caseload of people depending on availability.
